Dear Readers,
We’re living through challenging times. People are afraid, angry, and worried about the future. Misinformation and “fake news” spread faster than truth. Trust in institutions — and even in one another — has eroded.
But we believe that real change starts at home.
At Beacon Publishing, we’ve always been community-first. For nearly four decades, we’ve helped neighbors understand one another, celebrate our shared values, and work together to solve local problems. Today, our mission is more vital than ever: to restore civility, understanding, and communication through trustworthy, independent local journalism.
We recognize, as Amalie Nash of the Knight Foundation recently observed, that “the fragmented media ecosystem is here to stay.” People now get their news from dozens of sources — social media feeds, newsletters, podcasts, and community sites. The challenge isn’t that people have stopped caring about news; it’s how we can help them find accurate, meaningful information and strengthen the local news ecosystem that serves them.
That’s exactly what we’re doing at The Beacon. We’re building a sustainable model for small-community journalism — one that blends print, digital, and social media engagement, grounded in transparency and trust. While our focus remains hyperlocal, we’re expanding our coverage of essential but underreported issues like Civics, Education, and Public Safety — the foundation of an informed and healthy community. At the same time, we’ll continue to cover the stories that bring us together – of victories and defeats, accomplishments and challenges, joys and sorrows. The memories we put on our refrigerators and in our scrapbooks.
And our reach continues to grow. More than 55,000 readers each week engage with The Beacon’s newspapers, websites, and expanding social media channels.
But meaningful journalism takes resources — and the old business model no longer works. Like Nash said, philanthropy alone can’t sustain local news; we need local investment from people and businesses who understand its value to the community.
That’s why we’re inviting you to become a Beacon sponsor — a partner in building the infrastructure of community understanding and local democracy. Your support helps ensure that everyone in our towns has access to accurate information, thoughtful reporting, and stories that unite rather than divide.
